Great Mission Group Consultancy (GMGC) is providing professional training in Patent Law and Practice for candidates to appear for Indian Patent Agents Examination 2018, conducted by Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Govt. of India) through Patent Office.

What is a Patent?

A Patent is a statutory right for an invention granted for a limited period of time to the patentee by the Government, in exchange of full disclosure of his invention for excluding others, from making, using, selling, importing the patented product or process for producing that product for those purposes without his consent.

What is meant by Patent Agent?

A Patent agent is a person registered with Indian Patent Office whose name is entered in the patent agent register after being declared qualified in the patent agent examination conducted by the patent office.


A person shall be qualified to have his name entered in the register of patent agents if he fulfills the following conditions, namely—

(a) He/she is a citizen of India;

(b) He/she has completed the age of 21 years;

(c) He/she has obtained a degree in science, engineering or technology from any university established under law for the time being in force in the territory of India or possesses such other equivalent qualifications as the Central Government may specify in this behalf, and,

Pharma graduates and post graduates are also eligible to appear for this exam.

In addition,—

  1. has passed the qualifying examination prescribed for the purpose; or
  2. ii) Has, for a total period of not less than ten years, functioned either as an examiner or discharged the functions of the Controller under section 73 or both, but ceased to hold any such capacity.

Exam Syllabus:

The qualifying examination shall consist of the following papers and marks, namely: –

  • Paper I – Patent Act and Rules-100 marks,
  • Paper II- Drafting and interpretation of Patent specification and other documents -100 marks and
  • Viva-Voce 50 marks: Total 250 Marks.

Patent Agent Exam Structure:

Paper -I (Two Hours) Objective type; Multiple Choice Questions having one and/or more than one option correct.

Paper-II (Three Hours) Descriptive and

Viva-Voce. Schedule for Viva-Voce examination will be announced after the completion of written examination. Only those candidates who have scored a minimum of 50% marks in each paper will be allowed to appear for Viva-Voce. Separate list for same would be provided.

A candidate shall be required to secure a minimum of fifty marks in Paper-I and Paper-II and shall be declared to have passed the examination only if he obtains an aggregate of sixty per cent of the total marks.

GMGC is a group of legal professionals, scientist and academicians established in Pune, India to promote Intellectual Property Rights and World Trade Organization (WTO) related areas. GMGC has been established with an objective of providing concrete platform for Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) with a special focus on protection, promotion and enforcement of Geographical Indications.

Vision of GMGC dates back to the decade when handful of people were aware of Geographical Indications and potential thereof ‘Genuine rural Indian GI products on global platform’ characterizes the long cherished dream of GMGC. GMGC explicitly considers the role of promotion of in expanding market demand when consumers lack information regarding either the existence or the features of GI and GI-like products.


The WTO has recorded GMGC as Training and Research Organization. Its delegates attended Ministerial Conference of WTO held at Cancun, Mexico in 2003, at Hong Kong in 2005 and at Geneva, Switzerland in 2009 & 2011, Bali, Indonesia in 2013 and at Nairobi, Kenya in 2015. Its delegates also attended ‘Intellectual Property Rights Program’ arranged by Japan Patent Office at Tokyo, Japan in December, 2009. GMGC is also an Associate Member of International Organization for Geographical Indication Network, (OriGIn), Geneva, Switzerland.

GMGC has supported various inventors. Importantly, We have successfully applied twenty eight (28) Geographical Indications (Community IP rights) from State of Maharashtra out of which fourteen (19) GIs have been registered, five (5) have been accepted & published for registration and remaining four (4) GIs have completed the examination process and will be published soon. We have worked on World Bank project for registration of 10 Agricultural GI’s and also worked with Department of Horticulture, Government of Maharashtra for registration of 13 Agricultural GI’s. GMGC also worked towards various national and international assignments for IPR. Recognizing the work in the field of GIs in India, Chairman of GMGC, Prof. Ganesh S. Hingmire received the IPR Special Mention National Award (2015) in the hands of Hon’ble Minister of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.

Prof. Ganesh Hingmire was invited to the Startup India event inaugurated by Prime Minister Hon’ble Mr. Narendra Modi on 16th January 2016. GMGC was asked to submit a small video in preparation about the startup and the initiative taken by the start up. This video was amongst the 34 selected videos which were displayed in the above-mentioned event.

The organization represented by Prof. Hingmire has been selected as a Winner for the year 2016 in the category “National IP Award for Best Facilitation of Registration of GI and Promotion of Registered GI in the country”. The award was conferred on 26th April, 2016 by Hon’ble Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India, at a function jointly organized by Indian Intellectual Property Office and Confederation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CII).

Majority of the farmers’ communities of GI Products have given their authorizations to our company for submitting the application to obtain Protected Geographical Indication tag in European country. GMGC has done a notable work in other areas of Intellectual Property Rights. Prof. Ganesh Hingmire is a renowned Intellectual Property (IP) Enthusiast and a winner of two Consecutive National Awards for “Best Facilitation of Registration of Geographical Indications and Promotion of Registered GI in India” given by Ministry of Commerce, Gov. of India.

Prof. Ganesh completed his LL.M. from UK after completing LL.B. from renowned ILS Law College, Pune after his Science degree in Chemistry. He has also completed M.Phil (Economics) from University of Pune with a record of 91% grade point. He has completed several Professional Trainings viz. Japan Patent Office, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and NISCAIR. He constantly supported various industries for their IPR registration and commercialization from 2002 till then.

He is the founder of Great Mission Group Consultancy which is dedicated towards promotion of IPR in the country. He is also the founder and director of GMGC IPR Services Pvt. Ltd., a Start Up recognized by Government of India under the Start Up India Scheme launched in 2016.

He is an ardent reader and passionate writer with more than 70 published articles and numerous news articles in all majorly circulated news papers of Maharashtra and India. He has also authored two books on Economics and Intellectual Property Rights.

He has attended five Ministerial Conferences of World Trade Organization (WTO) at Cancun (2003), Hong Kong (2005), Geneva (2011), Indonesia (2013) and Kenya (2015) and his two position papers on GI issues have been published at WTO Website. He chose to work in the area of community IP Rights i.e. Geographical Indications and make it as a tool for economic growth of India. In the year 2014, the Indian GI Registry received 36 applications out of which Prof. Ganesh had worked upon 23 Applications with the support from World Bank Project and Department of Horticulture, Gov. of Maharashtra. It is because of his genuine efforts and relentless hardwork, Maharashtra is top in the list of Agricultural GIs in India. He continues his work with only one thing in mind “Miles To Go Before I Sleep”. Promotion of genuine agricultural products of India and getting premium price to the ultimate producer i.e. Farmer is the aim of his life.

Being the trailblazer in the field of Intellectual Property and particularly in the area of community IP Rights, Ganesh has incalculable level of understanding and experience regarding building a business out of an innovative concept.

 Prof. H.P. Deshmukh is a renowned Professor of Law with a remarkable career graph. He was a Professor at internationally renowned ILS Law College, Pune during 1976-2005. He was a Registrar of Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Pune during 1992-94. He also worked as a Vice Principal of ILS Law College and was a rector of the College. He has served as a Member of Senate of University of Pune. He has worked as the Director CAP (Central Assessment Program, University of Pune. During his tenure at ILS Law College, he actively participated in Legal Aid Center. He took charge as the Principal of DES Law College, Pune in 2005 and retired as the Director of Academics in the year 2011.

He has delivered lectures on Criminal Law in the year 2000 at Brandise school of Law in United States. He has also delivered lecture at YASHADA, VAMNICOM, and Land Development Center on various laws. He has attended and delivered lectures at several national and international Seminars and Workshop.

His lectures covering entire subjects of Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code and Negotiable Instruments Act have been uploaded on the YouTube. There are 141 videos of lectures, the duration of which runs into 57 hours 13 minutes and 57 seconds. These videos have received incredible welcome by the Law Fraternity all over the world which is evident from over 5 Lakh views from 161 countries and have 3050 subscriber from 75 countries around the world.

Prof. Deshmukh graduated with B.Sc. (Hons.), LL.M. from Mumbai University in 1974. He is an avid traveler and has been to USA, Germany, Mauritius, and Sri-Lanka. The colossal experience of Prof. Deshmukh plays pivotal role in shaping our vision.

Paresh graduated in June 2015 with LL.B. (Hons. in Intellectual Property Law) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He also holds a Master’s degree in Biotechnology from University of Pune. He is currently working as an Associate with GMGC, Pune and is responsible for handling of Intellectual Property Prosecution matters of the organization. He is a member of Board of Studies of Fergusson College, Pune and has designed syllabus for subjects such as Bioinformatics, Database Management System and Intellectual Property Rights. He is also a visiting faculty to the Fergusson College.. He has been adjudged as the “Winner” in 6th Symbiosis – B. Krishna Memorial National Moot Court Competition, 2014 and also won the Best Memorial Prize. He has worked as a Project Assistant at National Institute of Virology, Pune and as a Genetic Analyst at Symphony Teleca, Pune before joining LL.B. program. He has qualified CSIR-NET examination in June 2011 with All India Rank 25. He has co-authored two International Research Papers, one in the area of Molecular Characterization of Group B Rotaviruses published by Cambridge University Press and other in the area of Geographical Indications published by World Trade Organization. Paresh has very good understanding of Intellectual Property Prosecution and has an illustrious exposure to legal drafting during his various internships in different Metro Cities of India. He has been the Student Ambassador of Westlaw India (An online legal research service provider) to IIT Kharagpur. He worked as a lead member of Training & Placement Cell at IIT Kharagpur Law School. He has organized events such as National Moot Court Competition, Verdict during Asia’s biggest Techno-Management Fest at IIT Kharagpur.

Mrs. Rashmi G. Hingmire

Rashmi is a qualified Patent Agent registered with Indian Patent Office. She has filed more than 30 different types of patent applications from various fields, including Mechanical, Electrical, Biotechnological, Environmental Sciences, etc. Voluntarily she helped many student inventors to file patent applications, e.g. Electric foldable bike, Smart Transport Information System etc. She has more than 6 years’ experience of all patent related work including prior art search, drafting and filling of patent applications, drafting of provisional and complete specification, dealing with office actions. She has excellent skills in identifying patentable inventions and their features and advising inventors on legal and technical aspects.

She also worked on PCT International Patent System. She is well experienced in PCT application filing and prosecution, analyzing ISR issued in PCT applications and filing response under article 19 & 34 amendment etc. and mainly prosecuting Indian nationals PCT applications for various clients.

She is assisting in other IP registration activities related to Trademark and GI registration as well. She worked for World Bank funded project for registration of 10 unique GI commodities, in addition to this she is working as an associate for Government of Maharshtra’s venture for GI registration of 13 Agricultural products.

Since 2008, for promotion of IPR, she worked as a coordinator for various IPR related Seminars and Workshops conducted by GMGC in association of CGDPTM.

She has completed her Masters in Science (Computer Science) in 2007 from Pune University. She has done Certificate course in French in 2008 and has good knowledge of French language.  She has also completed Certificate course in .NET. She is currently leading web development and web maintenance team.

Komal Singh Chandrakar is a LLM in Economic and Commercial Law from University of Lausanne, Switzerland and Bachelors in Commerce graduate from Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce Pune. She has training and expertise in trade policy analysis and Investment laws.  She had the opportunity to represent her university internationally in Bilateral UNIL LLM / Bern WTI Moot Court on WTO Law in Switzerland and Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot court in Germany.

She is a Legal and Market research fellow for GI products. She is assisting in commercializing the GI products in domestic and international market as her diversified background in Commerce and law compliments to the project.

ChetanMadhukarTelang is a LLM (International Business Laws) from Middlesex University, London;he has prepared himself with comprehensive knowledge of the legal processes governinginternational business. Chetan completed his bachelor degree in Commerce from S.P. college in2012, further he accomplished another bachelor degree in the field of Law from Ferguson College in2015. This double degree has equipped him with knowledge of legal principles as well as the criticaland analytic skills to apply those principles in a range of business contexts.He is currently working as an associate on GI products and other IP matters. He is assisting incommercializing the GI products and other legal matters. His diversified background in Commerceand law is asset to our project.
